Chase Bank Loses Personal Data Tapes
As reported in the Wilmington New Journal on Sept. 8, 2006, JPMorgan. Chase reports they casually discarded tapes containing personal information of some 2.6 million former and current customers with a Circuit City-branded credit card or store charge card. Company investigators believe that the tapes were thrown in a trash compactor some time in July. Chase will alert impacted customers of the incident, and for the 1.3 million whose Social Security numbers were included on the tapes, will pay for a year of credit monitoring services.
